Breast Augmentation/Reduction/Lift

Breast augmentation enhances breast tissue by placing silicone or saline implants

beneath a woman’s breast tissue and chest muscle. With over 300,000 breast

enhancement surgeries done each year in this country , breast augmentation has

become one the most common cosmetic surgical procedure performed in the

United States.

The two procedures Mastopexy (also known as a Breast-lift) and Mammaplasty

(also known as a Breast-Reduction) are actually quite similar, because they are both

aimed at remodeling and shaping the breast. The reduction is performed by removing

a part of the large breast and reshaping it. The breast-lift procedure is performed by

removing some skin, and possibly a small part of the breast.

Breast reduction or Mammaplasty is a procedure where the breast is reshaped by

removing excess fat and skin to form smaller breasts, and the nipples are repositioned.

This is a procedure that can also be used to even up the size of breasts – where one

may be much larger than the other.

The size of a woman's breasts are partially determined by her genes, the same factors

that are inherited and can affect the size and frame of the woman. It can also be

influenced by her weight and hormones. Some women develop larger breasts from

early adolescence.
